Bio

Lana Van Boven is a versatile singer and performer with a unique, soulful sound.  She is passionate about exploring new ways to communicate across musical genres.  Lana grew up in the Seattle area, where she was classically trained as an operatic soprano.  At age 16 she won first place in the Washington State Solo and Ensemble contest, and went on to earn a degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Arizona with a full tuition arts scholarship.  She later completed graduate studies in Opera Performance and Music Education at the renowned Eastman School of Music, one of the top music conservatories in the world.  

In her classical singing career, Lana has performed as a soloist alongside musicians from many renowned ensembles, including Pacific MusikWorks Northwest, Seattle Pro Musica, the Aspen Music Festival Opera Theater, and the Eastman Opera Theater.  She has performed with multiple leading professional choirs in Seattle.  Recently she performed live on Seattle's King FM with the professional chamber choir "Emerald Ensemble".   She was an original  member of the 12 person choral ensemble "Solaris", and can be heard on their award winning album "Floodsongs".  a program of contemporary American music that includes works by Meredith Monk, the 2012 Musical America Composer of the Year.

Lana also has extensive experience as a studio vocalist.  She has recorded harmony and lead vocals for country, blues and pop songs with Seattle-based Mirror Sound Studio, as well as vocal tracks for Seattle-based experimental electronic music artist Aboombong.  She has also recorded multiple works for award winning composer David Hahn, co-founder of the Boston Renaissance Ensemble and former faculty member at the New England Conservatory.   She is featured on multiple tracks in his latest album "For the Trees".    Samples of her recordings can be heard on the "Listen" page.
